You see, our lungs are not designed to take in carbon monoxide, cigarette smoke, or other air pollutants--although mall air-conditioning is not guaranteed to be totally free of them. Brisk walking in open-air spaces where there's fresh air is still the best, like the seashore or rice fields. But where there's no provision for this, malls are the better choice than walking along main roads or highways.
Malls, however, are not for perspiring activities. If you wish to sweat it out to the max, I recommend doing it at your community plaza where there's a basketball court or doing it around your street block. It's unhealthy for your lungs to get sweaty in malls, especially if the sweat on your back dries off there. You don't want to catch deadly pneumonia later. Moreover, it's pretty hard working out a sweat in malls, unless it's not air-conditioned, like SM Baguio.
I see guys brisk walking or running outside around malls to workout a sweat. They have extra shirts with them and change clothes once they're through so they can go inside the mall and roam around or eat. That's good, though I and my wife prefer sweating out near our place so we can rest and take a shower in our house right away. We feel more comfy with that. But if you don't intend to get sweaty, brisk walking around malls will do.
What to wear when brisk walking around malls? Anything you like. I often wear jeans, shirt and my rubber-soled leather shoes. My wife wears the same with her rubber-soled sandals. Half of the session we walk leisurely, half of it we brisk walk. And what matters is that, we enjoy each other and the walkfit Manila sessions we do. I tell you, nothing beats brisk walking with your loved ones. It's so much better than working out in modern and well equipped gyms all by yourself.
